Cambridge vs. Meadowbrook.
Colts vs. Bobcats.
The Guernsey County Super Bowl.
“Them” vs. “Byesville”.
Call it what you want, but this Friday will mark the 50th meeting between neighbors on the football field when they do battle at McFarland Stadium.
The history of Cambridge-Meadowbrook on the gridiron dates to 1967, with the Bobcats holding the all-time lead by a wide 36-13 margin.
Cambridge dominated early, winning 14 of the first 15 meetings between ’67 and ’88 (they didn’t play from 1978-81).
Meadowbrook then won six times between ’89 and ’99, but the ‘Cats went on another run with 15 straight victories from 2000-2014.
The tide has turned since then, however, with the Colts winning six of the last seven games.
Cambridge has scored 10 shutout victories compared to just one by Meadowbrook. The Bobcats also have the most points scored in a game with a 76-35 win in 2009 while the Colts’ biggest scoring output came last year in a 60-35 victory.
The Bobcats also lead in all-time OHSAA playoff appearances, 7-5. Cambridge reached the postseason in 2004, ’05, ’06, ’16, ’20, ’21 and ’22 while Meadowbrook qualified in 2015, ’17, ’18, ’20 and ’21. The Colts are 6-5 in playoff games while the Bobcats are 3-7.
