That’s a wrap on fall sports for the Mid-Ohio Valley League!

The champions have been crowned in football, volleyball, golf and cross country, with All-MOVL accolades awarded to a host of deserving players from the league’s 10 teams.

In football, Barnesville captured the Scarlet Division, finishing 6-0 against its division opponents while Bridgeport took the Gray Division by beating both of its division foes. Barnesville also won the OVAC Class 3A championship, finishing the regular season at 10-0. Seven of the 10 MOVL teams qualified for the OHSAA playoffs, but all were eliminated in the first round.

In volleyball, Caldwell rolled to the Scarlet Division crown with a 12-0 league mark while Frontier and Beallsville shared the Gray Division at 3-1, splitting their head-to-head matches. Caldwell enjoyed the most tournament success, finishing as OHSAA Division IV Regional Runner-Up with an overall 23-3 record.

Earlier this fall were the league’s golf and cross country championships.

In golf, Barnesville claimed the boys’ team title at Oglebay Park’s Crispin Golf Course with Brady Gallagher of the Shamrocks as the individual medalist (72). Although no official champion was crowned on the girls’ side due to only two teams fielding full teams, Caldwell topped River in team scoring while Barnesville’s Kennedy Little took medalist honors (80).

In cross country, Shenandoah dominated the meet at Caldwell, taking the boys’ crown with the top five finishers including individual champion Jarrett Wentworth (17:02). For the girls, the Zeps’ Ida Estadt was first across the finish line (21:10). Shenandoah also saw its boys’ team capture the OVAC Class 3A title and qualify for the OHSAA Division III State Meet while Estadt earned All-Ohio honors with a ninth place finish among the D-III girls.

The league also had its first junior high level competition in volleyball, with Caldwell hosting the four-team seventh grade tournament while Shenandoah was the site of the nine-team eighth grade event. Caldwell emerged as the champion in both.

The fall of 2024 marked the farewell of Buckeye Local, which joined the league in 2020-21 but has opted to return to the Buckeye 8 Athletic League. Barnesville will be joining Buckeye Local soon but will still be part of the MOVL for the upcoming basketball and wrestling seasons.

As Bill Belichick might say, “we’re on to winter sports”!
